2025 Beginner & Intermediate Jewelry Arts Classes

 Bench Basics Beginner Series I, II & III, 2024

“Creation is a collaborative process and an intimate relationship between artists and their materials in which the participants continuously transform one another.” 

These classes are project-based skill level development in the art of silversmithing. The Beginner series is designed to inspire while introducing a set of essential skills and knowledge. Basic skills and understanding are a critical foundation for any new jewelry artist. Mastery develops through the expansion of fundamental abilities, years of continued practice, commitment, patience and love for the art.

In the Beginner Bench Basics series, students will learn how to fabricate sterling silver jewelry. They will practice skills through learning how to design, cut, pattern, hammer, solder, shape, polish, patina, set stones, etc.

Studio3 requires students to complete the Bench Basics Beginner series, I, II & III before engaging in Enhancing the Basics series or Open Studio.

Bench Basics series is offered once per year: 2025 Session begins April 1, Orientation: Tuesday, March 25 from 6 pm till 8 pm

Class dates: Orientation March 25, April 1, April 15, April 29, May 13, May 27, June 10, July 1, July 15, July 29, August 12, August 26, Sept 9, Sept 23, August 14, August 28, Nov 11, Nov 25, Dec 9

Studio3 will be closed: Tuesday June 17 & Tuesday October 7

Each series includes six (3 hour) classes (every other) Tuesday evening from 6 pm till 9 pm

$185 per Bench Basic series plus materials

Pre-registration and $75 non-refundable deposit required. Space is limited!

Balance is due on or before the first class. No transfers or refunds on deposits unless the workshop/class is canceled by Studio3.

Enhancing the Basics- 2025

Intermediate Series I, II & III

“There are no experts, only those who have made the journey.”

Moving from the Bench Basics classes to an independent/supervised practice in Open Studio can feel intimidating to a new jewelry artist. This intermediate class offers a way to enhance the basic skills learned in the Bench series for a more confident transition to engaging in the Open Studio practices and independent creating. In this expanded series, participants will practice more essential skills for proficiency and learn more complicated techniques that include advanced soldering skills, layering metals, piercing and sawing, patina and fine polishing and finishing, etc. Members

Participants must complete the beginner Bench Basics I, II & III series before engaging in the Bench Basics- Intermediate Series, (Enhancing the Basics).

Enhancing the Basics – Intermediate is offered once per year: 2025 session begins April 8th 

Class dates: April 8, April 22, May 6, May 20, June 3, June 24, July 8, July 22, August 5, August 19, Sept 2, Sept 16, Sept 30, Oct 21, Nov 4, Nov 18, Dec 2, Dec 9

2025 Bench Basics Intensive Retreat

6 day retreat- June 16 thru June 21, 2025

Students will learn how to fabricate sterling silver jewelry. They will practice skills through learning how to design, cut, pattern, hammer, solder, shape, polish, patina, set stones, etc. Each participant will create earrings, pendant and ring.

$575 plus materials (members & non-members)
Space is limited. $75 non-refundable deposit & pre-registration is required.

Via Paypal, Studio3 will invoice pre-registered participants the remaining balance approximately 10 days prior to the workshop/intensive retreat.

No prior jewelry arts experience is necessary.

Studio3 is a Smoke Free and Alcohol Free environment. The studio has a full modern kitchen and delicious well water. French pressed coffee and chocolate are provided!

Directions to the studio location in Canton, North Carolina, (Haywood County) will be provided via email after registration.

Some of our class members have severe reactions to perfumes and/or colognes which can cause painful migraines. Please remember to refrain from any use of fragrances when attending workshops or classes at Studio3. Thank you
