“Let’s all start wearing bolo ties, and when they become hip again we’ll all say we were kidding.”
Victor Cedarstaff was riding his horse one day in Arizona. His hat blew off and he was afraid of losing his silver trimmed hat band, so he slipped it around his neck. An idea incubated and soon Smith fashioned the first bolo tie. The name is derived from boleadora, an Argentine lariat. The bolo tie was made the official neckwear of Arizona in 1971. Bolos became fashionable in the 1980’s with rockabilly revivalists. Bolos lost popularity in the late 80’s, but today they are making a fashionable comeback.
